History of Immagini d’Irlanda in Umbria
The association Immagini d’Irlanda in Umbria was founded in the 1990s by Paul Cahill and has been carried on, since his death in 2003, by Fernando Trilli.
Irish poets and musicians who have been involved from the start include Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin (and her husband Macdara Woods who died in 2018), Ciaran O'Driscoll and Margaret Farrelly. A vital contributor is the translator and critic Rita Castigli. We collaborate with Strokestown International Poetry Festival in Co. Roscommon.
The association has been a focus for manifestations - readings, school visits, exhibitions, musical performances - relating to contemporary Irish culture. Many Italian poets and translators - from Umbria and elsewhere - have been involved in our events, especially the RiflessiDiVersi Festival every September. Due to Covid the festival in 2020 was virtual, in 2021 we had a limited programme. The festival returns to public venues and schools in 2022.
