Anna Maria Farabbi
Anna Maria Farabbi reads her poem in Italian
Encounter with power
the landlord sends for me:
So you’re the teacher? yes, a travelling teacher
if you’re able to teach these clods the way they say
I’ll get you for my son, for I’m the master here
for the slave there is a master I answer him back
for a thinking person there’s just one more member
of his own species
I’m one who works for the political pleasure
of scattering the alphabet at the feet of everybody
along the highway which belongs to nobody
you can send your son to the river that’s where I teach
